My ET - The New UFO Earrings are part of a series called Planetary Relationships. I went to the studio with a set of white enameled shapes and no idea what I was going to do. The words Planetary Relationships came to mind. I don't know how or why, but these are just one of a series that was born in the flow of it that day. And coincidentally, after I made these, my husband showed me a current news story about an unidentified flying object that came from outside our solar system, hopped into ours for a partial spin, and blipped out...

These earrings are made from hand cut copper shapes that are enameled in a kiln with vitreous enamel (finely ground glass). The design is created by using many layers of colored enamel strategically placed and fired. The top layer of black is scratched through to reveal the design below. This scratching technique is called sgraffito.
